UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI FIRENZE

The University of Florence (UNIFI) has the scientific responsibility of the SUONO Project and collaborates through the School of Engineering and more specifically with two of its departments: the Department of Industrial Engineering and the Department of Information Engineering.

The University of Florence is active in both subprojects i.e., the SAT-Diving System and the Hybrid Underwater Vehicle (HUV). In the first subproject, UNIFI contributes to the development of the rescue system for Certified Commercial Divers (CCD) living in saturation in the case of wreck or fire of the mother ship. Such a system, named Hyperbaric Evacuation System (HES), includes a hyperbaric robotic lifeboat capable of saving the lives of CCDs in saturation with an autonomy of 72 hours. In the framework of the second subproject, UNIFI contributes to the development of the hybrid underwater vehicle devoted to intervention at high depths and, in particular, is in charge of the development of the artificial vision-based semi-automatic manipulation system.

SCUOLA SUPERIORE SANT’ANNA

Two of the Institutes of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna are involved in SUONO project including the PERCRO Laboratory of the Institute of Information Communication and Perception Technologies (TeCIP) and the Institute of Life Sciences (ISV).
The PERCRO Laboratory (TeCIP Institute) is a group of about 70 people working since 1992 at on the research, development and integration of robotic systems for human-machine interaction, interactive 3D graphics systems and training technologies. Within SUONO project, the group develops the Immersive Control Station for the remote control of the Hybrid Underwater Vehicle (HUV).
ISV, with the collaboration of the Institute of Clinical Physiology of the CNR, is focused on studies the physiology of extreme environments, from scuba diving, to extreme sports, to human conditions in space. This group is involved in the SAT-Diving System sub-project in the development of the integrated physiological monitoring module.
